If you enjoy fishing why not visit the local harbour. Boats can be hired at nearby Gailey Bay. The harbour is a pleasant lakeside area just outside of the village and is a favourite spot for anglers. It is not necessary to have a license for fishing in Ireland. There is a bait fridge available for use

The information below is taken from the Althone and District Tourist Guide

Lough Ree & River Shannon.

The main species are Wild Brown Trout, Bream, Roach, Hybrids, Tench and Pike.

Open Season Trout: March 1st - September 30th Coarse and Pike fishing season is open all year.

Species: Mixed fishery, wild brown trout averaging 1lb to 2lbs with much larger specimens possible, pike/coarse fish.

Trout size and bag limit: 14inches or greater, 4 trout

Angling Methods: All legal methods subject to bye law no 787 shannon fisheries region (control of angling in Lough Ree) dated February 11th, 2003, it is prohibited to fish with more than 2 rods at any time.

Facilities: There are excellent launching facilities with a number of slipways at various points around the lake.

Angling Fees: This is an open fishery, angling rights are controlled by ESB fisheries. There is no fishing licence require to fish the River Shannon or Lough Ree.
