The following is a statement about the images, articles and text (media) in my web-site, and my understanding of the copyright issues which pertain to them. The whole area of copyright, particular on the internet, is a minefield, and so this is my own interpretation - it is not intended to be a precise legal statement.

Put simply, I will only use media which is:

• My own created data;
• Material I have requested and received permission to use;
• Material which appears to be unrestricted.

In this latter case, if I seem to have infringed a copyright, please let me know and I shall endeavour to put the matter right as soon as possible.

PERMISSION TO USE MY DATA

Any visitor has the permission to use the data within this site with the following provisos:

• Please DO NOT use my family photographs for any purpose whatsoever without my permission.
• If I state I have received permission to use material, please request permission yourself from the original site. I do not pay any fees, so you will probably not be asked either, but it is at the very least polite to make direct contact. The American Naval Historical Centre and the Australian Naval Institute have kindly given their permission for their material to be used freely.
• If you wish to use any other material from my site, please contact me. I wouldn’t normally charge anything, certainly not for a personal web site, it is just politeness.
• You do so at your own risk. If you fall foul of a copyright issue, it is your own responsibility! Equally, if there is an error in my data, it is not my fault (well, it probably is, but not my responsibility if it causes you any grief or other issues).
