What a great collection of foolers. It's not often that I watch a DVD that fools me again and again, but Stephen Tucker's Whiplash did just that. I found myself jumping to the explanations for a quite a few.
"Jumping Jack Flash" is a Haunted Deck effect where two cards are selected and the deck slowly cuts itself to the first selection, and then the second selection shoots out of the deck towards your waiting hand. Although he came up with the method independently Tucker credits Doug Edwards with part of the method - the slow cut.
"Avalanche" uses a completely blank deck yet you are able to divine a mentally thought of card.
"Paragon Monte" uses three cards glued together with a Queen in the middle. A paper clip is clipped to the Queen but is then found to be clipped to one of the other cards. This is repeated and the clip is never where is appears. Finally, two paper clips are used, one being clipped to each of the outer cards. Suddenly both clips are found to be on the Queen.
"Signed Coin in Bottle" is the cleanest borrowed coin in bottle I have seen.
"Incredible" is an excellent two phase routine based on Jim Steinmeyer's Nine Card Trick principle. I know the Steinmeyer original, but it didn't help me to avoid being fooled by this.
"Stroll On" is a very unusual chop cup type effect using a roll-on deodorant and the roller ball. No big finish here, but you end clean with a fully examinable deodorant with the roller-ball locked into its place, where it was to begin with.
"Revelations 3" is an impossible three card discovery. A spectator freely selects three cards from the deck. You place the deck back into the box and then the spectator pushes his three cards into the deck until they are perfectly square. You now drop the cased deck into your pocket. Despite the fairness of the procedure, you are now able to reach into your pocket and immediately produce the three cards.
In "Heart Attack", you show the backs of four cards to be normal. Suddenly a small heart shaped hole appears on one - the AH. The Ace is joined by the Two, which has two heart-shaped holes in it. The Ace and the Two now meld into the 3H, which has three heart-shaped holes in it and, finally, all the holes vanish and you left holding four jokers. A great little packet effect and quite baffling.
"Quintet" is another packet effect. This time five kings of spades turn over one by one, finally changing into a royal flush in spades.
"3 Fly Fo Fum" is the final trick, and what a trick it is. This is Tucker's take on the popular Three-Fly effect. I found this extremely puzzling from start to finish, and when I saw the method I laughed aloud as I was so far off track as I tried to figure this one out.
Tucker is joined for the performances by Iain Moran who assists throughout. There is also a section of extras which includes an interesting 20 minute interview with Tucker conducted by David Forrest. There is also a 'performance only' of Tucker's Omega, which is arguably the best non-gaffed version of Twisted Sisters you will see. If you don't know this, I think it will fool you. This trick is available from Tucker direct.
An excellent DVD collection of powerful and clever magic. Highly recommended.
