Hoop Dance Workshop

1 December
Added Wednesday 19th November 2008

Hoop Dance is an amazing movement form appealing to actors for many reasons.  It's a fantastic opportunity to explore the spaces around you, to incorporate the hoop as a performance tool allowing the hoop to speak, as previously seen in the televised performance of Cost of Living (2003) by DV8 .  Apart from the un-ending possibilities in which a hoop can be incorporated in a theatrical performance hoop dance strengthens the core muscles, rib cage flexibility, balance, energised and engaged breath and increases self esteem, all of which has links to the physical discipline an actor relies on.  I'm excited to offer an amazing workshop geared towards actors who might find Hoop Dance as useful as I have!  http://www.spirithoopcake.co.uk

This workshop will be at the hweld at MADCAP on Monday 1st December at 7.30pmf £5 (£3 concessions). Please can you let me know if you think you'll be coming along, just so we can give Janine an idea of how many hoops to bring.

'All the World goes round' Intro night

23 November
Added Thursday 13th November 2008

And The World Goes ’Round is Company MK’s next production, taking place at the And the world goes roundChrysalis Theatre on 23 to 25 April 2009. The show is a fantastic concert musical made up of songs by Kander and Ebb, the talented team that wrote Chicago and Cabaret. Well known songs such as ‘All That Jazz’ and ‘Money, Money’ appear alongside lesser known songs from other shows, such as Woman of the Year, The Rink and Kiss of the Spiderwoman.

Directed by Alex Taylor and with musical direction by Chris Tennant, we are looking for a cast of five women and three men. With very little dialogue in the show, we are looking for strong singers who can communicate the emotion and humour of the pieces through their performance.

If you’re interested, we’d love to see you at the Introductory Evening at 7.30 pm at the Chrysalis Theatre, Camphill, Milton Keynes (Click here for a map) on Sunday 23 November. There, you’ll have the chance to hear Alex and Chris’ vision for the show, hear some of the music (including the audition pieces) and chat to the production team and the steering group of Company MK.

Company MK do not have a fixed membership (the only permanent parts of our organisation are the Steering Group and Production Team), so the parts are open to all those who are interested, and we welcome new members.

There’ll be a poetry slam, Open Mic poetry slots, other competitions, and more entertaining interludes than we’ve even dreamed up yet, including live music from local artists. But we need Rhyming Rudolfs, Pantomime Dames and serious poets who think we’ve gone a bit silly to sign up and join in. So if you’ve a sonnet in your bonnet, a poem in your pants, or just some angst to vent in a rhyming fashion, get in touch on info@poetrykapow.co.uk or 07904 488009.

A tribute to Stuart Pemberton - A reminder 15 November
Added Monday 3 November 2008

A rather special concert has been arranged to pay tribute to Stuart Pemberton who died Stuart Pembertonin May this year following a stroke.  Stuart was very well known in Milton Keynes and the surrounding area as a talented pianist and he contributed much to music in the City as an accompanist, conductor and musical director to many local groups.

Apart from those who worked with Stuart in the musical world, there are many people who valued Stuart as a friend, a work colleague, a teacher, or who perhaps enjoyed being in the audience at concerts or musicals, who will want to be present on this occasion. Six local choral and musical theatre groups will be performing, together with individuals, all of whom worked with Stuart over many years and who wish to pay tribute to all he did to encourage and assist them.

Stantonbury Campus Theatre has donated the venue in acknowledgement of how much Stuart gave to the musical life of the theatre and the community over many years. In view of the nature of this concert, which is open to everyone, there is to be no charge for tickets but there will be the opportunity for donations to be given on the evening, which will be divided between The Royal National Lifeboat Institution and The Stroke Association.

The concert is being held at 7.30pm on Saturday November 15th at Stantonbury Campus Theatre. Tickets from 01908 324422.
