The Act of Union and the Borders

1707 sees the 300th anniversary of the Act of Union between Scotland and England. For centuries the Borders area had suffered from the results of war between the two countries, not to mention the exploits of the Border Reivers. This looks at what the Act meant for the region - did it have an effect or was it largely meaningless for the Borderers, who were one described as "a people that will be Scottishe when they will, and Englishe at their pleasure."?

I use a Powerpoint presentation to illustrate historical maps and show some of the Roman features still visible today.
