Flower Detail
The colours and textures of flowers have always fascinated me. I thought that the vibrancy and depth of colour which many flowers possess would lend itself to steam-fix silk dyes. The results of my experiments so far can be seen above. The important things to capture were the lines and textures rather than the image of the flower itself. A variety of techniques were used to achieve the range of textures required. Wet-on-wet gave a 'soft' feel, wet-on-dry for sharper lines and watermarks were encouraged in others to emphasise texture.
I had three really nice wooden frames for Christmas so I thought it might be fun to 'zoom in' still closer and try to capture some of the finer details of petals. These 'cameos' are simply studies in colour and I've experimented with shape, form and balance. The images shown below are 6 centimetres square set in 20 centimetre square frames.
