| Well that's the main gist of it but
there's so much more to it. Because you play the game online you also have many
other people playing it at the same time. So now that means that easily found
object you need to complete a task, becomes so much more difficult to obtain. Of
course you may get it only to be attacked and killed or even stolen from. Its
not all doom and gloom and not everyone it out there solely just to kill you.
Team work is also a much sought after prize. Without friends to talk to, help
you and guide you then it wouldn't be Mud. So your probably thinking why play a game that's just text. Ok I understand going around a 3D map with an assortment of high tech weapons and blasting anything that moves is highly enjoyable but the novelty does wear off. In mud you must use your brain and adsorb the text, plus the goal is always one step ahead. Well, enough of promoting the game. If your not reading this now then you've got bored already. So if your still with me then heres a quick rundown on how to get the game and what to expect when you first play it. The main server version of the game resides on Wireplay (run by BT). Although you will need a small piece of software to play the game (See Wireplay site for details www.wireplay.co.uk) So once you've got the software and connected to wireplay, told the wireplay system that you have mud, you can then select the Powerplay option and then select MUD. You then select P for play and give a character name (called persona) and state what sex it is. You can have 3 personas for each account. Once this is done you enter the Land. Well actually a tea room to begin with. This is where all personas start. No harm can be done to you there, plus you can use the tea room to recuperate. A list of other people's names (in red) will run up your screen. This is the list of everyone else playing (bar the invisible people). This list will be followed by a description (in green) of the Tearoom itself, and another list of player's names - these are the people in the tearoom with you. You can type SIP TEA here to get your first point, and you can leave at any time by going NORTH. Just remember though, you will have to QUIT and come back into the game to get back to the safety of the Tearoom. To get an idea of what to do and how to do it you can do the following: Type HELP SAY to get a long explanation of how to speak to other people. Type HELP to get a list of commands and examples of how to use them. Type FAQ to get a list of questions and answers about the game. Type INFO to get information about the point of the game. Type TOUR from the tearoom to get a tutorial, or to see where all the best treasure is in the land). Just remember the best help you can get is by speaking to other players!
