INTERNATIONAL
VETERAN CYCLE ASSOCIATION
Sorry this part is only in English for now.
WELLCOME TO EVERY VINTAGE
CYCLIST WHERE EVER YOU ARE.
The cycle was developed all over the world. The history of
the cycle clubs pages shows that when the first clubs were started
in the U K these were of a very local nature. Fred knew that Jim
had some cycles in a barn and they then fond other people who
also had vintage cycles and a local club was started. In the U
K The National association of Vintage Cycle Clubs was formed in
1956. This helped to get the word out to even more people. During
this U K activity other Countries like France Holland Germany
and the USA were also all also saving old cycles. It was inevitable
that a society or club to bring together all these unconnected
activity would happen. This did in happen in about 1980 when two
veteran cycle enthusiast one from England and one from France
and got the idea of a international rally.
A short history of the first
12 years of the international cycle association is given below.
The first international rally was held at Grantham in 1981.
There were 50 riders at this first event. 1982 saw the second
event this time in France at Ulis the numbers increased to 107
riders. Riders from France, Belgium, Germany, Netherlands, Italy,
Japan, Spain, Switzerland and the U K. For a second event the
word had soon got around. The third event was to be in Dinant
in Belgium but this was cancelled and the Desford club staged
the event in the U K. The next year 1984 was at Harlow in the
U K.
1985 saw not one but two events being planed in Switzerland
and Holland.and because of this The International Veteran Cycle
Association was formed to oversee future events. Both of these
events one at Lucerein Switzerland and the other at Valkenswaard
in Holland were held and were a great success. 1986 was to have
been in Germany but was held in the U K at Lincoln again riders
came form France, Belgium, Germany, Netherlands, Italy, Japan,
Spain, Switzerland and the UK and even from the USA.
1987 the rally was held in Nijmegegn in the Netherlands. 1988
was at Blois France. then in 1889 a rally was held in Lenk in
Switzerland. 1990 the rally was in Scotland based at Drumlanrig
Castle. This event saw riders from France, Belgium, Germany, Netherlands,
Italy, Japan, Spain, Switzerland and the U K and also from Denmark
Luxembourg and Sweden.
Then in 1991 to show that the words international meant that,
the rally went to the USA. the rally was based at the Findlay
University Ohio. 400 riders took part many making the trip from
France, Belgium Netherlands, Japan, Spain,Ireland and the U K.
Also that year a second rally was held in Germany in Hannover.
1992 was at Gent in Belgium. In 1993 the rally was held near
Prague in Czech Republic.
Later rallies will be updated at a later date and
allso a list of clubs added to this page and a welcome in other
than English and some links to other web sites. .
These rallies have since been held all over the world. The
internet with people in other parts of the world like the old
USSR countries being able to read this and begin finding out more
about this association, then some of these can also join this growing
association. The clubs in the UK or any other members, would love
to hear from any one reading this in any part of the world who
has vintage cycles. Who knows in years to come there may even
be members on Mars.
