VINTAGE CYCLES TAKING PART

1820-1870

Page one of a list and photos taken on the day of the riders and cycles that cycled round the course near Lutterworth on the 2002 rally of vintage cycles. It starts with 1903 and on down to 1927. Most years on this list have at least one cycle. Riders often have more than one cycle and ride one cycle, one year, and another next year. If one has spent all year doing up a cycle, this is rally to show it off in. Each year will see newly restored cycles of all sorts on show.

We start with the oldest cycles in the rally this year. Any one who entered late, is not included sorry.

1820 to 1870

Nice to see so many of these very old cycles, still in use today, as they did not make 10,000s like they do today. These boneshakers have solid steel frames and wooden wheels with a steel tyre like a cart wheel. They have only a steel bolt in the wheel and no ball bearings. They rattle along the road shaking every bone, which is why they got there name. Why do they all belong members to the Desford lane Club?
