SIGNAL BOXES
These signal boxes have nothing to do with vintage cycles
on the rest of my site. They have one thing incommon with each
other they are all now pulled down.In the early 1970s the East
Coast Main line was improved with new signalling. A power signal
box was built at Peterborough on the site of the old Midland Railways
MPD. this was just to the north of the station. This now controls
the ECM from Sandy in the south to just south of Grantham at Stoke
tunnel.in the north. It also controls to the west on the old Midland
line towards Stamford and also on some of the March line. These
photos are just some of my slides and will someday be part of
a dedicated web site I have yet to make.

Essendine GN box from the road bridge. There was a
station here and a branch to Stamford.

Essendine from the goods dock.

Greatford box this crossing is now controlled with
TV cameras from Tallington.

Tallington box. Note slow line goes around the box.
A new gate box is now to left of the footbridge I am on taking
this photo.

Lolham between Helpston and Tallington on the road
from Helpston to West Depping is also TV controlled now.

Walton Crossing box Peterborough (there was also a standard
Midland box in the space between the the tracks. Note hand gate
to the old box. There is now no road crossing here only a foot
bridge. There were two sets of gates here. The field before the
white hose was a dairy and the cows used to cross over the ECM
each day for milking.
