The first poem on this page was read out at the funeral of a very special lady called Sue who
passed to Spirit on the 5th August 1999 after an eight year battle with cancer.
Sue was - and still is - an inspiration to us all. Even towards the end of her
earthly life she was never seen without a smile on her face and not once was
she heard to say ‘why me ?’. Such inner strength and courage. Sue
touched the hearts of everyone she met and we all miss her terribly - even
though we know she’s happy and pain free in the Spirit World. We’d like to
share this poem with you in the knowledge that it will bring comfort to a lot of
people who are grieving.
WHEN I MUST LEAVE YOU
When I must leave you for a little while,
Please do not shed wild tears,
And hug your sorrow to you through the years.
But start out bravely with a gallant smile,
And, for my sake, and in my name,
Live on and do all things the same.
Feed not your loneliness on empty days,
But fill each waking hour in useful ways.
Reach out your hand in comfort and in cheer,
And I in turn will comfort you and hold you near.
And never, never be afraid to die,
For I am waiting for you in the sky.
