FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

February, 1999 -- Four members of Launceston Swimming Club travelled to Bodmin on Saturday , February 6, for the Cornwall County Sprints. For the first year swimmers had to qualify to enter.
Swimmer of the day for Launceston was Danny Gray who managed to get personal bests (PBs) in butterfly and front crawl - superb times, qualifying him for both finals in the 14 year and under age group. Danny found a bacon butty an ideal energy booster before the finals enabling him to take bronze in both races.
Youngest member of the Launceston squad was Lorna White, swimming in the 12 yrs. and under age group. Lorna gained PBs in the 50m backstroke and breaststroke. Despite not gaining a PB for her freestyle Lorna came 7th in her age group.
Mark Knight was on top form, gaining PBs in backstroke and freestyle, coming 7th in both races in the 13 yrs. age group. A wonderful comeback after weeks of no swimming due to illness.
Martin Chandler only just missed PBs for his butterfly and freestyle.
Coach John Roades is thanked for travelling to Bodmin to support the swimmers and to offer advice when needed.
