Bangor Congregational Covenanters

Beginnings

The Covenanters group began in the Bangor Congregational Church five years ago in 1994. The Co-Ordinator at that time, Mr Alan Thompson, had wanted to start some sort of children's BANGOR LEADERS meeting that would combine both physical and spiritual growth and exercise. He along with Reverend McFarland contacted Covenanters HQ and thus begin Covies second placement in Northern Ireland (Mr James Lamont began Covies in Ballymena a short time before). Numbers were not high to begin with and many of the children who attended Covenanters also attended Sunday School as well. Yet, God was with us in His work and Covies began to grow.

Numbers increased, activities increased and as a result new leaders had to be drafted in so that the work might continue. Shortly after this Alan's wife, Lillian died of cancer. This was a very sad occasion for all of us as she played a prominent role in Covenanters while she was well. I am glad, however, to say that she is in glory now with our Father and her saviour Jesus Christ. How happy she must be to know how Covenanters has developed over the years! Alan left the church a year later due to other circumstances and I would like to publically thank him for everything that he did. Without him Covenanters would not be in Bangor today. I wish you and Sheena a blessing for the rest of your days.

The Co-Ordinator now is Keith Maxwell. He has made several format changes within Covies including splitting the older and younger groups into two nights so they may have more room. New leaders have been added and God is blessing us every week. Five children have been saved just in the past year - keep praying for a spiritual revival; I believe it is about to begin.
