CHURCH SERVICES

The good Aiyan tries to attend church twice a day, at sunrise and sunset. These brief twice-daily services are expanded on Monday, the weekly day of worship, and on special holy days, when all are expected to attend.

Mondays and holy days aside, church attendance is not compulsory, though in most communities one's perennial absence is likely to be noticed and remarked upon. A quiet private observance at sunrise or sunset can be made in lieu of going to church. In kronetic communities, regular attendance is expected, unless there is good reason not to go (such as grave illness).

Each major faction of the Aiyan faith has developed its own form of the service, and there are many regional and local variations. However, the common features can be summarised in the two tables below. Items in bold are common to all services, otherwise they are performed only on holy days and Monday services.

Both morning and evening services have many items in common, performed in much the same way within any one branch of the faith.
