Reffley Temple, Reffley/Templemead, Kings Lynn

In 1789 a temple was built nearby to Reffley Woods, the Sons of Reffley were a fairly secret society, a gentleman only club where they would enjoy banquets, talk freely and drink their punch made from a secret recipe, but which contained the water from the chalybeate (water containing high levels of iron) spring on the site. In the late 1970's building started around it. But the Temple site still exists today, left to decay in the middle of three areas of a housing estate: Reffley, South Wootton and (most recently) Templemead.
Here's what we found when we visited the site April 2001...
