Speckled Wood

The Speckled Wood is found in the more wooded and shady parts of the downs and it can be seen from March to October.It often basks in the sunshine on bramble or other leaves.

 


Common Blue  
The Common Blue is smaller than the Chalkhill Blue and can be found between June and September.The female is brown with orange markings.

Meadow Brown

The Meadow Brown can be found from early July until September,often feeding on bramble flowers.It often flies on overcast days,even quite late in the evening.

Grizzled Skipper

This butterfly has fast moth like-flight and can be seen from April to August.It is found in the warmer,more sheltered parts of the downs and can often be seen basking on bare soil.
