Gatekeeper

The Gatekeeper can be seen from July to September and is usually found near to brambles,but can also be seen feeding on scabious and ragwort. It is best identified by its double "eye" spot.

Small Heath

This butterfly can be seen from May to September.It always settles with its wings closed,and is usually seen when disturbed from the long grass where it rests.


Green Hairstreak

The Green Hairstreak is found in May and June .It is green on the underside and dark brown on the upper wings.It is usually seen settled on leaves,where it is well camouflaged.Its flight is fast and jerky.


Comma
The comma can often be seen feeding on thistles and can be found from February onwards.It can easily be identified by its ragged wing edges.
