Catharine Eddowes

Catharine was the second part of the Ripper's Double Event. Her body was found in Mitre Square, 45 minutes after that of Elizabeth Stride on 30th September 1888.

This is the infamous Mitre Square. A policeman, PC Edward Watkins, patrolled the square at about 1.30AM and found it was deserted. When he returned 15 minutes later, he found a mutilated corpse.

At an inquest into Eddowes' death, he told the court "I saw the body of a woman lying there on her back: her feet facing the square, her clothes up above her waist. I saw her throat was cut and her bowels protruding. The stomach was ripped up."
