Mary Jane Kelly

In the early hours of 9th November 1888, Jack killed his last victim. Her name was Mary Jane Kelly, a young prostitute. Very little is known about Kelly. A man called Joe Barnett lived with Kelly for about 18 months. He gave details about Kelly to the inquest.

Mary Jane Kelly's murder site has since been demolished. In its place stands this building. At the far end of the building (the right on the picture) is a shop.

Kelly's injuries were very severe. The pictures below are horrific. If you wish not to see these pictures, then do not scroll down.

The most common picture. There is a theory that above Kelly's body are the letters FM scratched in to the wall. One Ripper author, Shirley Harrison, believes that this stands for Florence Maybrick, the wife of James Maybrick (a suspect).   The view from the foot of the bed. The bedside table is in the background and two piles of abdominal flesh were alleged by the press to be breasts. This is not true.
