About New Leaf

  Your Trainer
Ros Powell has been counselling for 10 years and is a BACP Registered Practitioner. One of her particular interests is helping clients with addiction problems, which includes drugs, alcohol or any other type of compulsive behaviour. Clients begin to understand why they use the drugs and can gradually begin to change their existing behaviour. She teaches most of her clients relaxation skills, which do prove very effective and beneficial to most of them. They help clients to relax and  reduce cravings for drugs or alcohol. People just don’t know that they posses these skills until they are shown how to develop them. The power of the mind is enormous and clients begin to realise that they can take control if they want to, with some dedicated practise.

Ros is also interested in trauma work and has counselled may people who have been through very distressing events, such as stabbings, muggings and bank raids. Ros was involved in counselling at the Paddington rail disaster and felt very privileged to have been asked to help.

In her private practice, which she runs from several different locations around Birmingham, Ros sees clients with many different problems, ranging from work-related stress, relationship issues and depression. She usually works using a brief therapy model, which means clients focus on solving the problems by setting realistic goals and making the  necessary changes in their lives.

She finds the work very rewarding and challenging, and hopes that if you feel the need to make changes in your life, but just don’t know where to begin, or who to talk to, that you may consider contacting her. She can have an informal word on the telephone with you and you can take your time in deciding whether you feel this route is the right one. Or you can come for one session and see how you feel then.

  The Counselling Process
Counselling is about focusing on problems, setting realistic personal goals and making changes which are suited to clients' individual needs. After an initial assessment session, ongoing appointments can be arranged at appropriate intervals and each session lasts approximately one hour.

The Counselling Process helps clients to develop improved methods of coping by focusing on solutions and strategies which will help clients to live their lives more effectively.

  Personal Counselling
