Oval Hot Hatch Specification

DEFINITION - Oval Hot Hatch’s are a non contact formula using suitably modified small 2 door hatch back saloon cars. The formula provides an opportunity for the racer with little knowledge of mechanics to purchase a road legal car and with a few off the shelf components added to the car he can go racing.

TYPE OF CAR - You may use any front wheel right hand drive steel bodied hatch back saloon car within the original manufacturers curb weight of 580-850 kilograms. The body must not be altered in anyway and the floor pan must be complete and unaltered. The engine must remain in its original position and the engine type must be the same as fitted by the manufacturer. No exceptions - All glass windows must remain - windscreens must be laminated with working washers and wipers All lights must be fitted and working plus suitably taped.

ENGINES - You may use any four cylinder in line engine up to a maximum capacity of 1660 cc using original stroke. No twin cam engines, no engines with more than two valves per cylinder. Turbo and injections are allowed provided they were fitted as original equipment to the car being used as defined in Glasses Guide - no exception.

WHAT YOU CAN DO!

Change valve spring.
Change cam shaft and wheels
Fit replacement type pistons
No machining is allowed to accommodate any of the above replacements
You may lighten the flywheel
In all other aspects the engine must remain as standard.


GEAR BOX DIFFERENTIALS - Must remain as standard. You may use a LSD. No welded diffs allowed.

MANIFOLDS - Must remain standard the exhaust system is free but must be effective at all times.

SUSPENSION - No adjustable components may be fitted and suspension mounts must remain in manufactured position

ROLL CAGE - Must be a four point recognised manufacturers type. No hand made specials.

WHEELS AND TYRES - Any one piece steel or alloy wheel up to a maximum width of 7" You may use competition tyres up to a maximum width of 7.2 inches.

BRAKES - Must be effective on all four wheels, including handbrake.

DOORS - BONNETS - Bonnets must be secured by two extra over centre clips but must remain fitted to standard hinges. Both doors must remain opening.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
- Batteries must be fitted in the original position and the self changing system must remain as standard. You must fit a battery cut out switch on the window scuttle passenger side.

FUEL - The standard fuel tank and lines must be used. Skid plates may be used to protect fuel lines where exposed. An anti spill cap must be fitted.


SAFETY EQUIPMENT - A full 5 point safety harness with a maximum web width of 2" complete with shoulder pads must be fitted. The drivers seat must be a bucket type with proper side supports. Crash Helmets must be to a minimum specification as published by the British Oval Racing Safety Executive B 6658 type or Shell SA-85-M85. A 1kg dry powder extinguisher with gauge must be fitted within reach of the driver. Only Proban or similar fire retardant overalls may be used.

FINAL PREPARATION -
The external painting of the car should be to a professional finish and must be maintained at all times.

RACING NUMBERS - You must paint or sticker a black circle on both doors and use this as a background for your racing number. Numbers must be in white and a minimum of 2" wide by 15" high
