I have being going to D.S. every Sunday since it opened at Redbridge Sports Centre. It was started for younger stroke survivors. It's wonderful to be with people of a kindred spirit {we all wear the same T-shirt!} Although some of us have bigger mountains to climb than others, we all have the same determination for recovery. We have a one-hour exercise class in the gym first, then go into the bar for lunch & coffee. We have all become close, telephoning & visiting each other at home. We have a fitness instructor every week & a Physiotherapist about every five weeks. At the club we also try to arrange some kind of event or outing once a month. Stroke survivors have to learn everything from the beginning & hopefully to NO aids at all. There are members with speech / eye sight problems as well as left or right sided paralysis. We are all PEOPLE who need to know they are not alone.
D.S now meet every Friday at 12.00.
I still have an interest in gardening & had to redesign the garden to meet my needs. I'm growing plants & flowers from seed again, to plant out in tubs and troughs. Also I've managed to do some knitting & sewing. I've just completed a baby jacket, which I will keep as one of 'My First's'. Gone are the ready meals, I've learned how to cook fresh meals from scratch again, my weight has gone from 5st. 8lbs to 7st 12 lbs. One of my dreams is to get my driving license back, & not have to rely on public transport having been a driver for the past 25 years.
