POSAUNE VOCE trio
Ken Shifrin trombone Claire Hollocks voice Rob Challinor piano
The Posaune Voce Trio, established in 1994, comprises the unique and most interesting blend of soprano, keyboard and trombone, exploring long-neglected works from this most popular of Baroque musical combinations.
A regular guest on both sides of the Atlantic as well as at European festivals, the trio caters for all tastes by also performing selections of Broadway hits and lighter music.
"The selection of the programme, which ranged from Emperor Joseph to Glenn Miller ands Gershwin created an electric atmosphere. What an overwhelming evening" Austrian/American Institute, Vienna
Saturday 8 March at 8pm
DELTA quartet
Karen Bannister clarinet and tenor sax Tonia Price clarinet and alto sax
Victoria Rex clarinet and soprano sax Paul Knapman bass clarinet and baritone sax
The Delta quartet formed in 2000, a progression from Gale Force 80 who played at Highbury in the 90`s. With a brand new repertoire, Delta may have your feet tapping to Benny Goodman and Fats Waller one minute, and then the hair on the back of your neck tingling to the liquid harmonies of Debussy the next. With a burst of saxophones thrown in there is never a dull moment.
"Superb quartet well suited to varied programme: The intimate surroundings of Highbury were last Saturday the chosen venue for this excellent quartet .vibrant tone colour sure technique ." Martyn Parfect, Sutton Coldfield News May 2002
Saturday 5 July 2003 at 8pm
BLENHEIM quintet
Helen Mills flute Richard Reakes oboe Paul Knapman clarinet Jean Chater bassoon John Geddes french horn
The Blenheim Wind Quintet have just celebrated their 20th anniversary and first played at Highbury back in the early 80`s. One of their most successful pieces is a setting of music from the opera Hansel and Gretel with narration, arranged by Helen
Mills originally for a concert at the University of Birmingham. The lady organising the concert wanted something for her grandson! Helen has published the music in the Emerson catalogue and it sells steadily around the world. It had a professional performance in London last year.
The quintet`s repertoire is from Pink Panther to Hungarian Dances, from Mozart to that Drunken Sailor.
