PRESS RELEASE

ALICIA RANDLE-ENGLISH MBE

MOLLIE

Highbury Theatre is sad to announce the death of our President, Founder of Highbury Theatre Mollie Randle/English M.B.E. at the age of 93, in Good Hope Hospital on 25 November 2003.
Mollie was active and mentally alert until the final weeks after a major stroke.
Mollie, together with her Husband, John English O.B.E. was also a Founder of the Midlands Arts Centre (MAC) in Cannon Hill Park, Birmingham, the Little Theatre Guild of Great Britain, the National Association of Arts Centres, and also the professional travelling Arena Theatre, from which the Cannon Hill Arts Centre grew.

The team of Mollie and John has left a great legacy of enjoyment and has set many people on the road to future careers in both the arts and craftwork, which otherwise they would have missed.

Her contacts throughout the theatre world were numerous and impressive and still ongoing.
Mollie set very high standards and was always looking to the future to improve the facilities and amenities and opportunities for development of the people within the theatre.
Mollie was always at every opening and closing night of performances, fully supported outside activities and performances by the Highbury Players and Youth Theatre.

She was a tireless fund raiser and her achievements in this were very impressive, using her own home for Flower Days for many years. Until very recently, she still prepared food and helped at the pre and after show suppers at the Theatre.
She will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her and our sympathies go out to her family.
