PRESS RELEASE March 2002
`MISERY' by STEPHEN KING opening on Tuesday 30 April - 11 May 2002
Stunning adaptation for the stage by Simon Moor of a compelling pshycological thriller.
This stunning adaptation of the Stephen King classic `Misery' has all the tension of the original and will prove a great tour de force for the two actors, Marcell Burnhope and Paul Quinlan.
In stark contrast to their last partnership presented at Highbury Little Theatre last June at the Little Theatre Guild Conference, in the prize winning premier of A touch of Rose Madders, Marcell and Paul this time appear as schiczophrenic Annie and Paul Sheldon, her hostage. Hazel Tolley again directs.
Best selling novelist Paul Sheldon is driving through Colorado intending to write another novel about his beautiful heroine Misery Chastain, when he spins off the road. He is rescued by Annie, his number one fan - and his nightmare begins.
`Misery' a somewhat strong and shocking play, but a compelling thriller, now has almost a cult following after the original novel and film, and Hazel is certain audiences will find it lives up to their expectations of an enjoyable nerve wracking evening.
An added bonus is the atmospheric set design by professional designer, Duncan Barton, whose credits include `La Miserables'.
