[542] 1797: Probate was granted for Jane Lawley's will to her son John Lawley on
8 May 1797. The will was made on 17 August 1792. She was a widow, of
Leighton Buzzard, and in good health. She stated that she was to be buried
in the Church Yard as close as possible to her husband, and that a strong
and durable grave rail was to be erected.
John Lawley, her son and sole executor received all her implements, crops
and stock in trade as a gardener, along with all her other effects subject
to the following bequests:
Flemons Lawley, her son received ú15 on condition that he made no other
claim on her estate. He was required to give a receipt for the money.
George Lawley, her son received ú5.
Betty Lawley, her daughter received ú25.
Mary Read, her daughter, the wife of Thomas Read, and Betty Lawley shared
'all her wearing apparel'.
Mary Franklin, her granddaughter, alias Lawley, received her Gold Ring and
ú2. [Mary was one of her son Flemons' 2 illegitimate daughters by Mary
Franklin.]

record that 'Richard Flemons was admitted to 15-1/2 acres of land on the
death of Joseph Flemons his late father'.

[696] 1768: Richard's will was made, dated 29 February. He was 'weak in body'.
Probate was granted on 23 November, 10 days after he died. The gravestone
has been transcribed in 'Old Mortality Bedfordshire (Leighton Buzzard All
Saints)' by A Weight Matthews [SoG BE/M 11]. The inscription read
'Richard Flemons died 13 Nov 1768 aged 68 years'. He is buried on the
large plot south of the church.

[697] The will [Bedford Record Office ALB/W1768/14] leaves the bulk of his estate
to his wife and sole executrix Ann absolutely.
Ann & her heirs were left 'All freehold,& copyhold messuages, cottages, closes, arable
land, ley, meadow, pasture and sward, grounds, lands, heriditaments, tenements
& premises ... within the parishes of Leighton Buzzard , Totternhoe + all wood
trees, hedges, ditches and mounds ... profits, common, common of pasture, etc'.
Rebecca Skinner, his sister got ú20.
Jane Lawley, his sister got ú20.
Joseph Flemons, his nephew got 5/-.
