INDEX

[223] 1777: William was baptised in St Mary's Parish Church, Tittleshall.

[224] 1799: William Pearson married Anne Whitlock in St Mary's Parish Church,
Tittleshall, Norfolk. They were both single, and 'of this parish'.
Both signed, - just as well, because the Rector, Dixon Hoste, was not
very legible. William appears to sign 'Peirson'. The witnesses were James
Pearson and James Vincent.
The Banns for their marriage were read on 20 and 27 October and 5 November,
1799 [1]. Dixon Hoste was the Minister.

[225] 1801-1819: William and Anne had 7 children during this period.
The eldest, a daughter named Elizabeth, was baptised in Tittleshall. I have
not been able to find the baptism of their second child, William. In the
censuses, he claims bot Tittleshall and Wellingham as his place of birth.
Thomas and Mary were baptised in Wellingham in 1810 and 1813, and the
youngest three, Susan, Margaret and Charlotte were baptised in Tittleshall.
It is possible that William and Anne lived first in Tittleshall, moved to
Wellingham, and then back again around 1811; Baptisms continued at Tittleshall during
this period, so a move is the most likely explanation. Wellingham and
Tittleshall are less than two miles apart.

[226] 1819: When Charlotte was baptised, William's occupation was given as
'Bricklayer' and his abode as Tittleshall.

[227] 1852: William Pearson died in Tittleshall on 27 April. According to his
death certificate, he was 81 years of age; a mason. He died of 'Natural Decay'.
The death was reported by Elizabeth Barrett, 'present at the death'. She
reported the death in the Litcham sub-district of Mitford and Launditch on
28 April.
William was buried in Tittleshall on 1 May 1852. His
'abode' was Tittleshall, and his age was given as 80. If he was baptised
close to his birth, then he was 74 when he died.
