and his death certificate. So far, I have been unable to trace his baptism
in either Tittleshall or Wellingham where he claimed to have been born
in the Censuses. It is almost certain that he was the son of William Pearson
and his wife Anne. Their other children were baptised in both Tittleshall
and Wellingham; there is a gap in which William (and possibly others) fit.

mother's name was given on the certificate. Her marriage in Stokesay Parish
Church was witnessed by James Powell and William Jones.

[719] 1911: Emma died on 29 March at Wettleton Hill, Stokesay, Shropshire. According
to her death certificate, she was 84 years of age, the widow of Samuel Chester,
a coal merchant. The cause of death was given by Ernest Tredgwick MRCS as
'Cardiac disease, several years; Bronchitis 14 days'. The death was reported
in the Diddlesbury sub-district of Ludlow on 30 March by her son, John
Chester 'present at the death'.

1739 which reads 'Robert ye XXXXXXXXd son of William and Mary Powell was
baptised a foreigner'. The unreadable bit may be a mark on the paper which
the priest has avoided. The original register was examined but probably is
unreadable. There is no other evidence that this Robert is the one baptised .
However, there are no other contenders, and it would put his age at 23 when
he married.
1762: Robert Powell married Hannah Ketley in the Parish Church of Codsall
Staffordshire on 30 May after Banns. The witnesses were Richd Hayward &
Wm Cockayne.
1765: son Thomas baptised.
1768: daughter Sarah baptised. Robert living at Oaken.
1772: daughter Elizabeth baptised.
1773: wife Hannah buried.
1775: marriage to Anne Moreton in the Parish Church of Codsall after
banns. Robert was a widower and Anne was a widow.
The witnesses were Elizabeth Morehouse and William Birch.
