There are however many variants of this name (spelling not being standardised until the 18th/19th centuries). Some of these are:
Shalliker, Sholicar, Shillaker, Shelicker, Shorliker,
and if you go back far enough (13th/14th Century) :-
Shurwalacres (this was the name of an area of land in the Ormskirk/Halsall district of Lancashire.
The Victoria County History of Lancashire Volume III mentions an area
called Shurlacres in Scarisbrick (Lancashire). A quote from this
p193 " To Richard de Scarisbrick (around year 1212) Simon con
firmed a grant previously made by Henry de Halsall viz Trulbury, Thornyhead
and Shurlacres (Schirewalacres), the bounds being thus given.
Going up from Senecar as far as Gorsuch, thence to Rodelache
between Wolfhow and Shurlacres, returning as far as Snape Brook. The annual
rent was to be 2 shillings in silver (trans Hist Soc. xxxii, 188)"
Shurlacres was adopted as surname by a local family.
Some early references to the surname
In 1370 Joan, sidow of Richard de Shurlacres, sued Robert, son of Robert
le Spencer and Margery, his wife, for certain land in Scarisbrick.
Lancashire Fines Vol 46 Part II : Edward III (1336)
No 71 At York, on the Octave of St. Martin (18th Nov 1334) ..
between Walter de Shirwalaccres (Sherlaker) plaintiff and Thomas de
Penreth, and Margery his wife, deforcients of 2 messuages, 2
oxgangs, 6 acres of land and 3 acres of pasture in Walton, near
Kirkdale. Thomas and Margery acknowledged the said tenements
to be the right of Walter and rendered them to him, to have and
to hold and his heirs, for which Walter gave them 40 marks.

The I.G.I.
This surname occurs mainly in Lancashire, but has also been found
on the Lincolnshire IGI (Shillaker) starting around 1790 - possibly
a branch of the family moved to the area at this time.
The IGI for Norfolk also has "Shorleyker" and similar spellings
from around 1636.
