The surname Stewardson is commonly found in Cumbria, England (former counties of Cumberland and Westmorland).

I am looking for John Orlando Stewardson who was born in Gravesend Kent in about 1863, although I have never found him in the St Catherine's Index - if you come across him let me know.

The Dictionary of National Biography mentions a Thomas Stewardson (1781-1859) who was a portrait painter, born Kendal, son of John and Anne a quaker family. He went to London and exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1804. He usually painted fancy subjects with children in them. He did not marry and is buried at Kensal Green Cemetery
