HOUSING

Chipmunks, like most small animals, enjoy as much space as possible. This could be a large outdoor cage like a bird aviary, however chipmunks are sturdy creatures and can live in a smaller indoor cage without many problems.

If you have the room and finances available, this type of outdoor cage is highly suitable for your very active and agile chipmunk.
Whilst it will work best the bigger it is in length and width, height is not a big issue as in the wild chipmunks will rarely venture above two metres. However consider your own height as it will get very uncomfortable if you are always ducking.
If on the other hand you want an indoor cage there are a few things to note. firstly, the cage should be at least 90cm high by 60cm deep by 45cm wide. You should be able to find this size cage even if it is not specifically designed for chipmunks, you can adapt a chinchilla cage for example.
