Exhibition text

Short, sweet, and to the point

Glasgow Science Centre

I wrote the texts for all of the 100 exhibits on Floor 1 of Glasgow Science Centre. We aimed to write no more than 80 words, occasionally straying to 100 when there was a pressing reason. I sweated blood over these texts, but I am pleased with the results. I did this work in collaboration with Ilze Groves, who oversaw all the text-writing for GSC. Afterwards she wrote me an unsolicited reference.

Puzzlemania Exhibition

I wrote most of the texts for the Puzzlemania Exhibition while working as a consultant to Glasgow Science Centre and @Bristol.

Phaeno, Wolfsburg

I worked on about 200 exhibit texts for the Phaeno science centre, as a contractor to Hüttinger Exhibition Engineering. I wrote about three-quarters of them from scratch; the job also involved working on English translations of German originals, and doing a few of the translations myself.

I also wrote about 20 more in-depth texts, working directly for Phaeno.

Texts for an art exhibition

Part of one of Belinda Gilbert Scott's paintings of the granary While I was working at Glasgow Science Centre, artist Belinda Gilbert Scott put on an exhibition of paintings there. These paintings were all of a huge brick granary - a Glasgow landmark - in various stages of demolition, and concentrated on the light that was present at various stages of the demolition and at different times of year. I wrote some short texts to go with the paintings, to explain why the various effects of the light occurred.

Hunterian Museum, Glasgow

I wrote 16 short biographical sketches of prominent Scottish medical scientists, for an exhibition at the Hunterian Museum, Glasgow as a subcontractor to Ruth Ruthven of Innovative Learning Projects,
