AND FINALLY NOT ONLY DO WE HAVE A PASSION FOR WALKING ON TOP OF DARTMOOR!

Sam and me love to get underneath Dartmoor as well as on top. Here we are deep underneath the moor. Thats me by the shaft - all the timbering behind me lining the shaft where the cage used to run at least one hundred years ago.

The re-opening of this mine for exploration purposes has been a project me and Sam have been working on for some time and took us many hours of digging and shoring through collasped tunnels.

I have been involved in similar projects in the past, the main one at a very interesting mine at St Day in Cornwall in the early to late 1980's.

The location of our current project must unfortunately remain secret as from previous experience we have found that if you share information with others, people will abuse your trust and before you know it the inexperienced will be visiting the site which is extremely dangerous,( I can't stress enough, extremely dangerous ).

The mine owner has kindly given their permission for this project and has infact assisted in the project. They too want to keep the site secret.

Oh and by the way if you were wondering where Sam is, he's behind the camera.

Here are some more mining photos if your interested.

A nice old tramway level.

Another photo from the mine we are currently exploring. As will be seen because no-one else has been in it since it shut there are numerous Iron Oxide stalactites hanging from the roof. Just sneeze too loudly and these will drop from the roof.

And a few photos from a different mine.

And it's always nice to get back on top of the moor again after a few hours underground.
