Lowlights

Today was one heck of a good day. For the first time in about 10 months I actually made some progress on the car. I currently have one of the cleanest garages in the country, since every time in the last few months that I have thought that I would tackle the build, I've thought that I better sort out the garage first. All my tools are nicely arranged on pin-boards on the walls, drills are hung up and the floor I could eat my dinner off. Anyway, all that changed today. Mark Fisher managed to do the thing that he has done twice before. I went there with the idea that I would get one of Mark's people to come over and fit the engine for me since this job was just too large for me to do. For the third time I didn't even get to ask the question as Mark managed to enthuse me enough that I could do it myself.

Today's watershed was that for the first time I saw a new chassis Fury with a Rover K engine in it. This allowed me to take a very close look at it, to find out exactly how it should fit. So I rushed home, with a spare set of engine mounts, and got down to work. The job that was just too big for me to even start, I broke down into a number of simple steps. I cut the ends off the gearbox mounting , which would allow it to sit on the locating platforms, thus I could remove the trolley jack that was holding it in place. This was a fun task since the 'box had to be moved slightly to the right to get it into place. So the jack was called into use again, but this time it would not fit under the car, jacking up the back, standing it on props, fixed the problem. It brought home to me just how little clearance there is under the car at the moment. With the back mounting point located I then started to look at the front. The alternator, and oil filter bracket both have to been modified to fit nicely so that is tomorrows jobs.

My big problem is how to locate where I have to put the holes for the mounts to do. The only way I can find is to make some wooden ones, without screws at the bottom and measure them from there. So I now have made 2 engine mounts ready to be put on the ends of the support brackets that are already installed. However, I need to make some better ones, so another task for me tomorrow, oh as well as ringing Mark Fisher and getting the answer to a number of questions.
