These instructions assume that you have actually installed ArmTCP correctly. If you haven't, or you are not sure, click here for installation instructions.
There are some sites out there (it's a big WWW!) which give a lot of help setting up the various components of Acorn Internet, although I can't think of specific examples at the moment. These instructions apply to Acorn/RISC OS computers, running RISC-OS 4 and above, although it may well work with older versions, but I have no means of testing this. One thing you do have to remember is to set up !Internet, using Configure>Network, to make sure that TCP/IP is enabled. None of the other options are required, as ArmTCP supplies these on the fly.
Once you have copied the script file and set up the Internet.files.PPP stuff, start up ArmTCP and then click menu over the iconbar icon and select choices/advanced choices. In General, leave all the default settings for the time being; I've never changed anything here.
In Devices, make sure that Device driver matches your modem cable; it would normally be InternalPC; Speed 115200 (but reduce this if you are having line drops - try to match the speed of your modem); port 0 if you are using the internal serial port; Retry max etc. leave as default; Modem line drop detection On; Modem speaker volume Default - it depends on your modem if this is configurable or not. If your modem is not in the list, try using the default, with the init command either AT&F or AT&F1 which restores factory defaults for most modems. Dial command should be ATDT.
Now go on to Accounts; click the New button and put YourISP as the name - no spaces - and click Create. Use device - Device_1; Login - your.address@your.isp (remembering that it is not case sensitive, but MUST match the ChapSecrets (or chap-secr) file in Internet.files.PPP); Password - your password, which IS case sensitive; Country - United Kingdom; Service Provider - choose your ISP from the list - it will be there assuming you have added the script file according to the instructions. If you are setting up BTInternet, choose the telephone number from the menu, according to your modem for the local call times, or the 0800 number for evenings and weekends.
NOTE FOR BTInternet USERS: You must remember to use the configure option to change the number you are dialling, or you can set up two accounts, configuring the first one as above with the daytime number, and the second one with the same details except for the name, which you could make BTFree, and set that one up with the freephone number. If you set up two accounts like that, when you click menu over the ArmTCP icon, instead of just clicking on Connect from the menu, it opens a sub-menu from which you select your connection - if you set it up as I have suggested you would have a sub-menu consisting of BTInternet and BTFree, so you just click on the one for the appropriate time of day. I have now added the number for the Anytime Monthly service to the BTinternet script - subscribers should set this up as their default number.
I'm sure that this is a fairly accurate (if brief!) description of how to set up your account with the ISPs for which I have supplied scripts, but it should work for most ISPs. I've obviously only included UK ISPs - living in the UK I have no means of testing any others - but the instructions above should work with ISPs from all the supported countries, and you can always try fiddling with the ISP-Modem file yourself.
I have removed the G-Wizz section of the script - they no longer exist as an ISP.
