Choosing a Boat

I offer the following advice on choosing the correct boat, I have run Multi, Sport/Offshore, cats, riggers and monos

Beginner Sport or Offshore boats, a simple hull with a basic, cheap, engine. For competition offshore type boats usually run race type engines.
Some experience with RC Sports boats, Cars or Planes A mono with a high performance engine (CMB, OPS etc) up to 45 would make a good choice. These boats can be set to turn both left and right and tend to flatter the skills of the driver.
Experience of fast RC boats, cars or planes A large, 90 or gas powered, mono will take a lot more setting up than the smaller monos but if done correctly will result in a very impressive and quick boat.

Alternatively

A Cat hull such as a Sprintcat together with a suitably sized high performance engine   will give a fast boat with good handling.

Experience of a fast cat or mono A well set-up rigger gives a very fast and exciting drive.

Even a well set-up rigger will not be as manoeuvrable as a cat, most riggers will only tolerate slight left adjustments to course.

Riggers will not run slow and are a very bad choice for the beginner.
