Despite the cold weather twenty-four Bungay bowlers turned out to play for the Parravani's Ice Cream Charity Cup on the first Saturday in May at Bungay Bowls Club. This year the Beccles-based New Thresholds charity was the sponsor's chosen benefactor. The charity, which has shops in Beccles, Loddon and Halesworth, provides a unique service for people of working age who are recovering from mental illness.

After three qualifying matches the two group winners met in an 8-end final. After 7 ends both triples had four shots on the scoreboard with just one wood to be played by both skips. With the shot wood against him Ted Knowles' final wood looked to be heading underneath the jack, when it took a deflection off a short wood and hit the jack to the back of the head where in nestled by one of his team's woods. Opposing skip Harry Minns was unable to have an effect on the head with his last wood so had to settle for second place along with his team-mates Reg Brinded and Peter Nunn.

Amid much friendly banter the winning triple of Ted Knowles, Stan Dossett and Harry James receive the cup from Paul and Sharon Parravani. As club Chairman Ted Knowles presented a cheque to Cherry Trigwell and Jean Bowery of New Thresholds on behalf of the sponsors and the Club. Thanks were expressed to Janet Deacon and her helpers for an excellent buffet and Dominic Belisario for organising the tournament.
