These are the early plays what I wrote when I was but a wee lad. Started in 1995, the plays span the first five or so years of me writing. They are not very good plays, but seemed funny at the time. Here are their names, a brief summary of them and a quote from a section of the script, (yes, actually spoken by the characters) You can tell by my general tone that these plays are not classics, but I had to start somewhere you understand.
Airstream
Written in 1995, Airstream was my first attempt at writing a play. It was a comedy with no real meaning or depth. The two pilots meet at the airport and begin the story. Whilst there they meet the two flirtatious women who end up flying with the two men. After a rap demonstrating to the passengers where the exits are onboard, and a near miss between the two planes, there is the inevitable wedding between Francois and Clement. It was performed in the school drama group - an event my friends would prefer to forget!
"THE NAMES HAMMER, ACE HAMMER, AT YOUR SERVICE!"
Mission :Improbable
Another piss take, can you guess? Really insane, I can't actually remember what pills I was on at the time, but hey, I found it funny… okay, I'll go now. The plot involved a crack team of professionals tracking down the infamous Simon Says as he attempted to wipe out the world using BSE. The ensuing "Drama" is more the stuff of delusional mind than theatre. Still, you have to admit that it was at least topical.
"THAT INCLUDES YOU TARTY! NOW DOES ANTBODY HAVE AN ACADAMY AWARD WINNING PLAN WHICH THEY`D LIKE TO SHARE WITH THE REST OF US?"
Then There Was One
This was my first attempt at co-writing. Myself and Robert Barker, devised a murder mystery typical of the Agatha Christie style. Set in the forties, a doctor and an accountant scheme together to act out a fabled curse upon the Hardy family. Eventually the truth reveals that initial murders were committed out of love and jealousy by a heartbroken woman, but they killings were continued by the doctors hand. The bumbling inspector and his glamorous assistant are stock characters, essentially two dimensional and more like a magician and his assistant, than the Sherlock Holmes type. The play was performed in 1998, again amongst friends and drama group regulars. This was the largest play so far, and really the one that started actually looked like a play. Even if the content was a little dubious.
"SO THAT'S IT THEN. IT'S ALL FINISHED. THERE'S ONLY ME LEFT. AND IT'S ONLY A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE THE MURDERER GETS ME."
