Description:

This single spray of orchid flowers was a Valentines gift, provided by Casa Rosa in Milton. Eight or nine individual flowers are visible. Five pale purple petals surround a small central trumpet with a lower lip showing a rim of elongated spots and a line directing to the centre of the flower. These flowers are designed for a pollinator (large insect or possible small bird) to search in the centre of the flower for nectar as the stigma and anthers are placed in such a way as to deposit and retrieve pollen from the back surface of the visitor.
