Wooden Drascombe

Name: 'Footloose'

Type: Scaith

Builder: John and Doug Elliott

Year: November 1978

Owner: Doug Elliott

Quote from Doug Elliott:-

"These are photos of a Drascombe Scaith we built for John Weller. This was taken at our Yealmbridge Yard when the boat was nearing completion. John still owns her and keeps her in pristine varnished condition, a foredeck and locker was added during construction for stowage and the mast fitted in a tabernacle instead of a mast thwart and a step on the hog. The rig is a standing lugsail with a jib and small mizzen offset to starboard. A very attractive looking boat, probably the ultimate development of the Scaith. We also customised the outboard well to very snugly fit a Yamaha 2hp motor through a close fitting slot in the hull."

"I do remember we were asked to fit 2 lifting eyebolt and spreaders to allow the boat to be hoisted into the roofspace of a garage when not in use."

Update from Doug Elliott:- "I've just bought back the Drascombe Scaith 'Footloose' from John Weller who was the original owner. I collected her from Reigate last weekend. She was built by me and completed in November 1978 and is still in good sound condition, well cared for. I intend to renovate her to as new condition over the winter ready for next year, she's still has the original varnished hull and cream interior paintwork, the work will be mostly cosmetic, with just some minor repairs."
