Wooden DrascombeName: 'Glenlui'Type: SkiffBuilder: Doug ElliottYear: c1974Owner: Where is she now?
"The very first Skiff I built was 'Glenlui' I think it was winter 1972/3. I built her as my own boat and the build time was 124 hours start to fully finished including spars etc, the original colour was International paints Green 126 for the outside of the hull and Cream 027 for the inside with varnished trim. I don't know her whereabouts now. There were 3 Skiffs built by John Watkinson at Drascombe Barton. His own prototype, which was stolen a several years ago and I don't know if it was ever recovered, as well as 2 boats that he built on spec and later sold, all of the other Skiffs built under the John Elliott banner were built by me, oddly my brother never actually built any of them, not by design, it just happened that way, we didn't have any grand plan for who built what, it was just who was available at the time for any particular job, so most of the boats were a joint effort. I don't recall how many Skiffs we built, but they were quite popular." |

"Two of the photos are of my Skiff 'Glenlui' taken at the Yealmpton show in about 1973? The price tag shows £556.25p which is for a completed Skiff with all of the extras imaginable, ready for sea. The galvanised trailer at that time cost £77. My brother John is in the photo. This was the only shoiw we ever took a boat to, it was really only to support the local show, our premises were less than half a mile away from the showground." |
