WOODEN DRASCOMBES

Introduction

Most Drascombes are built of GRP but the original ones were made of wood. Even after GRP production began there were still builders producing wooden Drascombes.

I have set up this website to record the details of as many wooden Drascombes as I can trace.

If you have a wooden Drascombe and would like to see it included in the register please let me have the details. By Drascombe I mean the traditional-style sailing boats designed by the late John Watkinson.

Lompster For Sale

Doug Elliott thought that he recognised Lompster when he saw her photo on this website. Her current owner thought that she might have been built by Norman White as the previous owner had bought her in Scotland. After examining some detailed photos Doug identified her as 'Whelk', the varnished Longboat that the Elliott brothers had built for Lord and Lady Strathspey.
