Quotes
from Duncan Collyer:-
"I have a wooden Drascombe lugger that I thought could go on your
web/register. Stewart Brown from Churchouse Boats told me about your register.
I bought this lugger (Java) in March this year (2008) from a doctor/sailing
instructor in Devon. He had owned her for 4 years, and he had bought her
off the original owner who apparently was 82 years old and had taken very
good care of her. The 1st and original owner named her Java after the
initials of his two daughters- J.A and V.A.. I would be very interested
to find out when this boat was built, I guess around 1973. So I am the
3rd and proud owner, I Live in Portugal and am hoping to do some restoration
work on her this winter. I am also planning a trip in july 2009, covering
the full length of the Portuguese coast in Java. starting the trip at
the northern most part of Portugal, and finishing down on the south coast
where Portugal meets Spain again. There is plaque near the stern hatches
which is barely readable. It reads: John Elliot, Boatbuilding and Repairs,
General woodwork, Yealmbridge, Yealmpton, S. Devon."
"I just recieved this email from Graham Toms, who was the person
I bought 'Java' from (perhaps the 2nd owner). So now we have the name
of the original owner, I hope. John Dunbar from near Wadebridge who is
now about 75 years old."
