Quote from Chris Evans

"She was originally designed and built by John Watkinson himself at his yard Kelly and Hall in Bridgend, Noss mayo, in the winter of 1962/1963. She was one of a pair, the other was built for Tony Soper the TV naturalist who bought the craft a little fame as star of a TV series about seabirds in the same year. John then sold Kelly and Hall and cruised the Med for a couple of years before returning to live at Drascombe Barton farm on Dartmoor. There he played with our original lugger to Drascombise it and out of his fiddlings came "Katherine (sic) Mary" his original lugger."
