Nothing of importance occurred. A draft arrived on Jan 18th from England.

Course on stretcher drill.

1st March – 14th March

Route marching and firing practice.

15th March

Fatigue duty at officers quarters, dismantling tents. Packed Lieut Gillespies things in bullock cart and loaded up more officers equipment. Moved off, eventually arrived at Treet. Then went on to Thaldana with belongings. Blankets issued later.

19th March – 28 March

Settling in routine and then a course of gymastics.

Friday, May 1st – 19th May

Usual routine with gymnastics.

Wednesday, 20th May

Queens birthday. Fell in at 11 am in review order. Fired the feu-di- joie

More gym and then passed out , had our photographs taken.

1st June – 17th June

Usual barracks routine and musketry practice.

Friday, 18th June

Sports and pony races at Gharial race course.

Saturday 30th June – July 31st.

Still at Thudanna – usual barracks routine and musketry practice.

Usual barracks routine including a course on how to load and pack mules.

Tuesday, 1st Sept – 11th September

Military exercises and barracks routine.

Saturday, 13 September

Kit inspection. Made a prisoner for lending a pair of boots to a comrade for inspection.

14th Sept, Sunday – Church parade.

Monday, 14th September

Marched up to orderly room under escort. Our companys officer put me and my comrade in front of the CO (Major Reikes) who gave me an admonishing and my comrade 8 days default, but he was going away so he was let off.

15th Sept – 22nd September

Mountain war fare and barracks routine.

Wednesday, 23rd September

Sports day with G Company of the Gordons. The Gordons won most events.

24th September

Usual routine.

25th September

We had a torchlight tattoo in honour of the Queen reigning for so long. The hill was lit up[ with coloured fires. We also had fireworks and one pint of beer each.

26th September – 30th September

Usual routine. On 28th we had a holiday in commemoration of Prince Consort being made Commander in Chief in 1852.

Thursday October 1st – 8th

More sports on 8th which Gordons won, otherwise usual routine.

Thursday, 15th October

Packed up kit and proceeded with my officer to Treet to take over charge of the standing camp until all the troops had passed through from the hills.

Friday 16th October – 5th November

Packed the bullock cart and proceeded to Treet. Put up tents for 2 of us and a sergeant, the officer going into a bungalow.

6th November

At Treet going shooting and fishing. The officer got a telegram to say his father was dying so packed his things and proceeded to Rawal Pindi. Lieut Gillespie left by the midnight mail.

7th November – 10th November

Usual routine.

Wednesday 11th November

Review parade. One of the officers attached to our company shot himself this morning.

Thursday, 12 November.

Funeral of the officer.

Friday 13th November – 30th November

Military training and general routine.

Tuesday December 1st – 24th

Military training and manoeuvres.

25th December

Church parade. Colonel came round and wished us all a merry Christmas, the dinner was very good. Went to soldiers home for an entertainment and enjoyed myself.
