Still working in Corporals Mess. Went to the Royal and saw "My native land". Went to the St James Hall on Friday and on Saturday to the Grant Theatre and saw "East Lynn.

Went to funeral of a chap, one of our draft, named Hopkins.

Thursday, 5th April

Was inspected by the Duke of Cambridge, there was the Engineers, Artillery, Devons, Bedfords and us. Went through sword exercises with the Duke and he said we were very good.

Friday, 6th – Tuesday 10th April

Still in Corporals Mess

Received good conduct pay on 19th on the completion of 2 years service.

Tuesday 1st May to Monday 14th May

Went to Tregentel to go through the annual course of musketry. Made 142 points being a first class shot.

Usual routine. Saw "Ups and Downs of Life" at the Grand Theatre on 25th. Very good.

Saturday 26th May to Tuesday 29th May

Getting ready to leave Plymouth and loaded our baggage on th HMS Tyne. Had some dinner on ship and set sail.

Wednesday, 30th May

Saw the Isle of Wight as we came in to Portsmouth. Disembarked and pitched camp outside Portsmouth.

Thursday, 31st May

Struck camp and marched to Petersfield

Friday 1st June

Struck camp and marched to Bowden.

Saturday 2nd June

Arched off through Farnham to Aldershot. Stationed in the Blenheim barracks.

Sunday 3rd to Saturday 9th June

Usual barracks routine and manouevres.

Sunday 10th June

Was inspected by our Colonel in Chief the Duke of Connaught.

Monday, 11th to Wednesday 13th June.

Barracks routine and manuoevres. On the 13th saw the Prince of Wales give five new colours to the Warwicks- it was a grand sight and almost opposite our barracks.

Thursday, 14th February to 16th June

Usual barracks routine and manueovres.

Sunday 17th June

After church parade went for a long walk through north camp and down to station into Aldershot town, up the High Street and through Queens Avenue over engineers bridge and back home.

Monday, 18th June to Friday 22nd June

Usual routine. After lunch on 21st went on pass to Sevenoakes via Waterloo and got back on Sunday at 11.30 pm.

More manuevres with the Duke of Connaught acting as chief umpire.

Wednesday 11th July

Visit of HM Queen Victoria to Aldershot. I was part of the Queens guard. There were many bands and lots of music which was very good.

Thursday, 12th July

The Queen arrived early and we gave her the Royal Salute. The troops then marched passed then the mounted troops came by at a gallop. We then marched towards the Queen and gave the salute and then she went away. It was a grand sight.

Monday 23rd July to Friday 27th July

More army exercises through Perbright towards Cobham through to Bisley camp where we had tents. Next morning we returned slowly over the ranges, a very stiff day. On Thursday waited for enemy to attack. On Friday we struck camp and marched off to Bagshot Park, waiting for the enemy.

Saturday, 28th July and Sunday 29th July

Marched through Beckwater and Camberley and then we saw advanced guard of the enemy and we dumped them. Then marched back to camp – roused again at 11 and marched to woods at back of the camp. Came back for breakfast and church parade.

Monday 30th July to Wednesday 1st August

More army exercises.

Tuesday 2nd August

More chasing after the enemy. The General was very satisfied with us.

Friday 3rd Sept to Tuesday 7th August

Wednesday 8th August

Musketry and judging distances parade.

Thursday 9th to Saturday 11th August.

Marched off through Farnham out to the other side of Fox Hills. It was a Divisional Field Day – all the troops turned out, looking splendid. We chased the enemy and then retired. Next day, more advancing and retreating. Got back to barracks in afternoon and went on pass to Sevenoakes.

Monday 13th August

Visit of the German Emperor. Fell in by 8.30 on parade in review order with tunics and plumes for a grand review before the German Emperer, we marched past in double companies and back in quarter columns.

Tuesday 14th August

Divisional field day before the German Emperor who watched the manoeuvres. It was a very stiff day. Then I went on guard. Came off duty and a man arrived to disinfect the room – someone had developed scarlet fever.

More manoeuvres.

Usual barracks routine – on pass on Friday 24th.

In Sevenoakes.

Sunday 26th August

Went to Offham at ten to see my relations. Left in the evening for Aldershot.

Wednesday, 5th September

Saw a balloon of the Royal Engineer struck by lightning and it came down with a crash. There was no one in the car but the two men holding it got burnt and went to Cambridge Hospital. All the royal family were there as the Duchess was going to Christen the balloon in her name.

Thursday 1st Nov

Received our furlough papers and two pounds. Then marched to Ash Vale Station. Arrived home at Sevenoakes at 2 o' clock.

Received postcard on 22nd (and five shillings) to say the draft was put off till January 1895, came back Fri 30th Nov, getting into barracks about 7 o'clock.

Usual barracks routine.Went on pass the evening of 24th to Sevenoakes and enjoyed myself.
