The North Highlands Coast to Coast walk - details - Day 3
Start from where you finished on day 2 at the end of the public road by Glencalvie lodge NH 464891. Today's walk is short, only about 11 miles. This is an unavoidable consequence of breaking down the walk into sections with road access. Backpackers have the advantage here of greater choice of length of each days walking. First and easiest (but less interesting) is to walk on the public road north to it's junction at at NH473909, then turn left and follow the road to it's end at Croich Church NH454915. Alternatively, if you dislike road walking, take the estate track west to Alladale lodge. From here a path leads roughly northeast over a hill taking you to Croich Church NH454915   Backpackers who have stayed in Alladale bothy will retrace their last mile back to Alladale Lodge, then pick up this path over the hill to Croich Church However you got to Croich Church, you now head northwest along the track into Strath Cuileannach. You follow this strath for the next 5 miles until you reach a path branching off north at NH 397961. Here again you face a choice depending upon you accommodation choice: B&B walkers will take this path northwards and follow it to Amat at NH390909. From here you take the track that starts north, turns west and take two right turns to eventually bring you to the public road at Oykel Bridge. Backpackers are better off continuing on the main track heading northwest towards (eventually) Duag Bridge NH340975. Choose a wild camp spot anywhere along this section. Regrettably there are no obvious high level detours along this section of the walk. |
