David Clough's Homepage

Welcome to my homepage. I live with my wife in the village of Hacheston in Suffolk, which is on the B1116 approximately 1.5 miles from where it leaves the A12 north of Wickham Market in the direction of Framlingham. We have two grown-up children; our daughter is a Community Nurse living near Stowmarket; our son graduated from the University of York with a First in Computer Science, and completed his PhD in the Computer Science department of the University of Sheffield, where he is now a Lecturer in the Department of Information Studies. We have five grandchildren; two in Suffolk and three in South Yorkshire.

I have taken early retirement from BT at Adastral Park, Martlesham Heath near Ipswich, after serving as Assistant Editor of the BT Technology Journal for some 22 years. Before that I was Careers Information Officer for the Suffolk Careers Service based in Ipswich, and before that a lecturer at the University College of Wales, Aberystwyth. I graduated from the University of Wales in 1967, and went on to gain a Master's degree from the University of Manchester in 1969.

In my spare time, I am involved with activities relating to All Saints Church, Hacheston. I am responsible for the Website for the Hacheston Bells 2000 Project, which successfully raised over £60k to restore the derelict ring of bells. The derelict bells were removed on March 1 and 2 1999; the new ring of 6 restored/augmented bells was installed during the week commencing 6 March 2000.The bells were dedicated at a special service at 6pm on Easter Sunday, 2000. I am now Tower Captain at Hacheston, and look after the bells and the ringing. I am a member of the Suffolk Guild of Ringers, who generously offered £4.6k towards the restoration project.

I am also involved with the Hacheston Flower Festival, which raises money for Hacheston Church. The 2008 Flower Festival will be held on June 28-29.
