Hacheston Flower Festival

Hacheston PCC have decided that the Hacheston Rose Festival will become the Hacheston Flower Festival, and will be held on the weekend of Saturday 28 and Sunday 29 June 2008. Some roses will still be included in the arrangements, but other flowers will be included too.

The date has been moved forward to coincide with the popular Hacheston Vehicle and Bygones Rally, with the hope that holding both village events on the same day will give visitors a lot more to see and do; Hacheston church and Mutimer's Meadow being only a short walk from each other. Bringing the date forward should also avoid clashing with other major local events outside the village.

The other major change for 2008 is that the Hacheston Flower Festival will be held entirely in the church and churchyard, with stalls such as tombola, bric-a-brac and limited refreshments returning to the churchyard as they used to be. It is hoped this will reduce the overheads for running the Festival, while maximising income for the church. 2007 has been a difficult year for Hacheston church, with first storm damage to the lead on the roof of the south aisle, and then the theft of lead from the same place shortly after it had been replaced. The church is insured, but has twice had to bear the excess on the policy, which has been difficult for such a small community.

Further details of the Festival will be published here as soon as they are available, but please book the date in your diaries.
