What is Phono-Graphix
TM?
"...ideal
for teaching dyslexics to read." Pam Lore (Teacher, Moon
Hall School)
Phono-Graphix
TM is a complete programme for teaching reading
and correcting problems. It is beneficial for all students including
those with dyslexia and specific learning difficulties.
Phono-Graphix
TM was developed by Read America after years
of research into how children learn to read. Studies into the
effectiveness of Phono-Graphix TM have shown:
- 98% of children made
significant gains in reading age (an average of 2 years) in 12
hours of lessons or less.
- the remaining 2% made
the same gains but took slightly longer.
- the average length of
tuition was 9.5 hours.
- the studies included
children with a 'low' IQ, below 80, children diagnosed as 'learning
disabled' including dyslexia and children with severe vision
problems.
Step by step in
just 12 hours, Phono-Graphix TM leads the child through the discovery
of all the skills, concepts and information needed to be a successful
reader and speller.

What happens at the
consultation?
At the consultation
you will be able to discuss your concerns about your child's reading
and spelling.
The tutor will
then carry out a series of non-stressful tests with your child,
which should take about 50 minutes.
This is to establish
what your child can do now in order to plan lessons
effectively.
You will receive
a written report of the tutor's findings and recommendations for
your child.

What about the lessons
and homework?
Lessons last one
hour and are weekly on a one-to-one basis, subject to availability.
Homework (10-15
minutes a night) is set for the week ahead.
A parent is required
to stay in lessons to observe both the way the programme is structured
and the way the tutor works. It is important that the same person
does this every week and helps the child with the homework, to
ensure continuity of approach.
Additionally it
is recommended that you read with your child for 20-30 minutes
a day, reinforcing the lessons.
Don't worry, should
you choose to make this commitment you will be shown what to do.
